About the website.
The mahajoga.org [english version: eng.mahajoga.org] website (1) is dedicated to Ramana Maharshi and the direct path to Liberation [Moksha, Mukti] prescribed by him.
Our website is for informational and educational purposes - it presents Sri Ramana Maharshi's teachings and related teachings, as well as our - and not only our - explanations and commentaries to them(2). The website is run solely in the service of Bhagavan - the purpose of running it is neither self-promotion nor any other personal benefit.
All content posted here is for informational and educational purposes.
The mahajoga service is completely non-commercial in its character. We do not collect data about site visitors in the form of cookies. We don't put advertisements or anything like that on it. We are not affiliated with any organization, either religious or any other.
In what we write here we are based primarily on teachings from the works of Sri Ramana Maharshi, records of Bhagavan's teachings, commentaries on them and explanations by Sri Muruganar and Sri Sadhu Om, and on our own experience of the state of Silence [Mouna] achieved in the Atma-vichara practice.
In the pages we present the teachings of Sri Ramana Maharshi as a teacher who has realized to a perfect and ultimate degree the highest spiritual states and ideals, himself being their embodiment, in his teachings pointing the way to the same for those who are willing to follow it. We recognize his teachings as definitive, error-free and authoritative. We do not engage into polemics with any other spiritual, philosophical or religious schools. Any attempts to draw us into such disputes will be ignored by us, as will attempts to convert us to any beliefs.
Here we present Sri Ramana's teachings from a practical point of view as they may be useful to adepts walking the path taught by Bhagavan Ramana; we do not engage in academic deliberations, philosophizing, or theoretical divagations on various spiritual concepts or notions; we present the details of the teachings, but only insofar as it is necessary to walk the direct path - or to embark on it. We try to write in a simple, clear and accessible manner.
Among Sri Ramana Maharshi's adherents, disciples, people commenting on or explaining his teachings or translating books about them, two groups can be distinguished: those who actively do not seek Liberation, of whom there is a large majority, and those who actively pursue Liberation, of whom there is a minority; significant differences can be observed between them in their approach, understanding and interpretation of Bhagavan's teachings. Our website is definitely kept in the trend appropriate to the latter group of adepts and is mainly addressed to them.
Liberation [Mukti, Moksha] is the highest human possibility and value; as this state transcends our psycho-physical conditions, it cannot be grasped with the mind or described in words. The path to Liberation also yields itself to description only to a certain extent, but its deeper and subtler dimensions are available in practice only to those who walk it seriously, with zeal and commitment; this path reveals its beauty in its full glory to those who have embarked upon it (the proper stage), and not to those who merely read about it.
As a general rule, spiritual teachings addressed to people who are not pursuing Liberation are different from those intended for those who are actively pursuing Liberation [Mukti, Moksha]. The teachings on our pages are primarily addressed to those who have a strong desire/longing for Liberation [mumukshu] and a readiness to embark on and follow the path shown by Sri Ramana leading to it. Such people can derive the greatest benefit from studying these teachings, grasping their deeper levels and recognize their value.
However, for those who undertake the reading motivated only by intellectual curiosity, the teachings contained here will be one of many - which they will probably soon forget - and the deeper aspects of the teachings will remain covered for them on their own.
We ask you not to associate our site with the currently popular neo-Advaita movement, from which we strongly disassociate ourselves, and which uses - all too often superficially or incorrectly interpreted - Sri Ramana's teachings, sometimes also using Bhagavan and his authority to give credence to its light and easy pop-spirituality, promising everyone a quick and effortless ascent to spiritual peaks, which is strongly at odds with Sri Ramana's authentic path.
Imagining spiritual peaks and actually climbing them are two completely different things, requiring completely different methods, tools and attitudes.
In what we write here we adopt the point of view prevalent in Ramana Maharshi's teachings that takes into account the disciples' belief in the reality of the manifested world and their entanglement in the relative level of consciousness, while pointing out the requiring path to its absolute level; consequently, amateurs of the currently fashionable non-dual swinging in the clouds and spiritual doing-nothing may not find much nourishment for themselves here. We don't serve any other pop-spiritual nourishment here either, and we direct its amateurs to other places.
Whenever we use the word “spirituality” in our sites in reference to Ramana Maharshi's teachings, we never speak of energy worlds, astral worlds, parallel worlds, other dimensions, the afterlife world or any other similar realms; nor do we speak of the entities inhabiting these realms (called “spirits” by some) or any interaction with them.
Spirituality on Ramana Maharshi's path is of a different nature, and his path leads neither through nor into these spheres/realms.
Although we recognize Ramana Maharshi's path as the most valuable and wonderful of all spiritual paths, we do not urge anyone to adopt a similar view; we respect all spiritual paths and schools and for those who find other teachings more valuable, we suggest that they stick to what they recognize as most appropriate for themselves.
Ramana Maharshi, although he spoke clearly and explicitly about the merits and uniqueness of his path, never urged anyone to abandon their current path/faith/belief and accept his teachings instead. We do likewise.
A man's spiritual path is graded, and at each of its levels teachers appropriate to that level impart applied teachings to the disciples therein.
Our pages are dedicated only to climbing the last step of this spiritual ladder. We leave all the others to their respective teachers respecting and appreciating their work. We do not discuss or refer to the teachings preached on these steps except when the teachers or adepts operating there interpret the teachings of Ramana Maharshi's direct path in such a way that they misrepresent them making them useless on the demanding path to Liberation.
If we are referring critically to some spiritual practices/activities, it is only in the case of attempts to combine them or transfer them to the Sri Ramana path, with which they are not compatible and do not give progress on it, although they may be helpful and beneficial to adepts on other paths. We are not referring critically to the adepts themselves performing these practices/activities, while respecting and appreciating every effort made on spiritual paths at every level, we are only pointing out that a given practice/activity is incompatible with the direct path of Sri Ramana and does not benefit on it, and can sometimes even be counter-productive.
We suggest that the reader, before beginning to read our sites, read the summary description of the various rungs of the man's spiritual ladder found here, so that what he reads can be placed in the broader context of the various spiritual disciplines, and so that he can get a preliminary idea of whether these teachings are at all for him.
Those undertaking Atma-vichara practice are advised to read our pages slowly and piece by piece - the texts have been purposely divided into small sections to make this easier; a wholesale flooding of the mind with words, even describing the highest spiritual teachings, does not do well for the ability to enter the state of Silence (Mouna).
Warning and disclaimers:
The teachings found in our sites are, for the most part, addressed to spiritually mature aspirants oriented toward serious practice leading to Liberation [atma-sadhana]; by others, they may be perceived as too radical, uncompromising or bold; they may prove elusive, difficult or even impossible for them to assimilate, and may be misinterpreted by them, sometimes even interpreted in the opposite way.
The spirituality presented on our sites is Eastern spirituality - therefore, due to significant cultural differences, for those with a strongly Western mindset, the approaches, attitudes and teachings presented here may be found incomprehensible, unacceptable or worrisome, may be perceived as far-too radical, bizarre, eccentric, etc.
We make every effort to provide texts posted on our sites with the highest possible quality, free from errors, distortions, misrepresentations or inaccuracies, but we are not able to guarantee this - no guarantee for this is given.
It is not the intention of our sites to convert anyone to any views, to influence anyone to change their worldview, to persuade anyone to believe in anything or to urge anyone to take any action.

How to read our sites?
"Don't read spiritual texts like you were reading a newspaper
or a book of trivia, and don’t read for the purpose of gathering information.
Read as though you were reading instructions about how to
fly that are vital so that you do not crash.
The fact that the intellect understands what is written here is not enough.
Read to awaken insight.
Never confuse intellectual understanding with insight".
~ Michael Langford, The most direct and rapid means to eternal bliss, paraphrase

Contact.
Anyone interested in contacting us on matters related to Sri Ramana's teachings or the practice he teaches (or related matters), please email us at: vichara.marga.pl@gmail.com We would also appreciate pointing out any typos or other errors on the site.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When visitors asked Ramana Maharshi questions, he would respond in a variety of ways appropriate to the circumstances and appropriate to the person. A common feature of his answers was that if someone tried to engage him in polemics, question his words, lecture him, show off his knowledge or intellect, smarten him up, prove his intellectual superiority, etc., Bhagavan would immediately fall silent, cut off the discussion with such a delinquent and never return to it again.
We follow a similar approach. We respond to emails primarily based on the intention with which they were written. If someone writes to us with the sincere and pure intention of furthering their knowledge of Ramana Maharshi and his path (or related matters), we are happy to respond to such correspondence (with the caveat that we leave questions that are non-substantive or outside of these topics unanswered). We are most happy about correspondence that reveals a genuine, vivid longing for the Supreme [mumukshu], even if the writer knows nothing about the teachings of Ramana Maharshi or Advaita.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note: If you like our website, appreciate the knowledge and effort we’ve put into it, and this makes you feel grateful, and you’re wondering if it’s a good idea to share that with us, we encourage you to do so (we usually do the same ourselves); we will be delighted, and more importantly, it may come back to you with interest - such things are recorded in the karmic bank under the “gratitude shown” account and are taken into account during reckoning.
On subtle planes a general rule applies: those who give generously receive generously, while those who stint receive stingily. It’s worth keeping this rule in mind, especially if you’re setting out on a journey where subtleties and grace play the leading role.
In any case, we recommend taking a broader view of gratitude and giving — if someone wants to receive but isn’t able to give, it may not work well on a spiritual level.
Who would refrain from giving, knowing that by giving to others, one gives to oneself? - asks Ramana Maharshi [Nan Yar?].
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It happens that some of the adepts who write to us report back that the correspondence they received opened them the door to sublime spiritual experiences. An example of such an event can be found here.
We are very happy about this and give thanks to Bhagwan [Self]: it's him, not us.
If, however, someone wants to drag us into intellectual discussions in which he intends to ruffle the feathers of his ego, show off his knowledge or intellect, prove his wisdom and greatness, catch words to draw in snarled nets, etc., then he has definitely chosen the wrong address and should straight away go elsewhere.
We either do not respond to this type of correspondence at all, or we cut it off just as quickly and just as decisively as Sri Ramana.
Toxic, aggressive or insulting emails are not read at all.
About us.

„By exposing oneself due to the desire of being praised by others, one is unnecessarily removing one’s protection and creating obstacles to the sadhana one has undertaken”.
~ Sri Ramana Maharshi Guru Vachaka Kovai
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"The desire for the annihilation of the ego is the right sign of atma-sadhana. But fame and praise are things to be gained only by the ego. Therefore, if one has a desire for fame it means that one does not like to destroy the ego. That is why Sri Bhagavan says that the one who has desire for fame is himself creating obstacles to his sadhana. Therefore, if the atma-sadhana is to progress unobstructed and well protected, it is better for an aspirant to live a life of unknown name and unknown place".
~ Sri Sadhu Om in the commentary to the above statement, Guru Vachaka Kovai.

To linguistic purists.
The primary emphasis on our website is on the substantive transmission of the teachings along with the transmission of the spirit of these teachings, secondarily on the linguistic correctness of the texts posted, which plays a subservient role to the transmission of the teachings.
Therefore, the reader may find some linguistic shortcomings in our sites.
We have limited capacity to make corrections, hence typos and similar errors may appear in texts.
Moreover, to describe the teachings of Ramana Maharshi, which transcend the relative experience of the mind, we use severely imperfect words created to describe phenomena from the level of the relative world, words that are not always able to correctly convey the deepest meaning of the teachings as required. We try to describe each item as precisely as possible, but we don't always manage like we'd like to.
English is not our native language, and even in the native language it is very difficult to convey correctly all the subtle nuances of spiritual teachings, let alone in a foreign language, and for this reason there may be some shortcomings in the texts too.
We ask all language purists for understanding and turning a blind eye to this.
If anyone has the knowledge, skills, time and willingness to support us in proofreading texts, we will happily accept such help.
